birdpal¶
birdpal copies the photos and videos from your Bird Buddy feeder into Immich. It writes the bird's name, the feeder, the place and the time into each asset, so you can search, tag-filter and map your feeder visits in Immich.
See my post about it for some background
- One static binary. No dependencies, no state file: Immich tells birdpal what it already has.
- Reads every bird collection, the mystery visitors and never-recognized feed media, and uploads what Immich does not have yet.
- Can trigger Bird Buddy's identification ("Identify this visitor") on new postcards.
- Runs on Linux or as a container.
Quick start¶
1. Install birdpal and create an Immich API key with the permissions it needs.
2. Put your credentials in environment variables (see Usage):
export BIRDPAL_BBEMAIL=you@example.com
export BIRDPAL_BBPASSWD='your-bird-buddy-password'
export BIRDPAL_IMMICHSERVER=https://immich.example.com
export BIRDPAL_IMMICHKEY=your-immich-api-key
3. See what birdpal would do with the 20 newest media. This changes nothing:
birdpal --sync --tags --batchsize 20 --maxbatches 1 --dry-run
4. Do the first full run:
birdpal --sync --update --full --tags --gps 37.774900,-122.419400
5. Keep it in sync with the systemd timers.
